Smart eBikes

The Smart eBike is a new bicycle idea produced by Daimler Mg the same company that owns Mercedes Benz and makes the smart cars. It is designed very similarly to the smart car and it operates using a 250 watt hub motor.

Smart eBike

As an award winning bike, this ebike is much better looking than most of the ebikes that have already been produced to date despite the fact that it doesn't completely look bicycle. This is attributed mostly to the fact that the current technology used makes it difficult to manufacture them in a different look.

The battery that operates the bike is a 423 Wh lithium-ion battery, it is considered one of the most powerful batteries that are used to operate this kind of products. This makes it very energy efficient. The battery is smartly hidden behind the back wheel so it is not completely visible to the outside making this line of ebikes look distinctly different from other ones.

Intelligent Design ...

According to the producers, this ebike is designed to be dynamic and fun to ride while ensuring that they keep safety in mind. The hydraulic breaks are fixed on both rear and front wheels for additional safety and the tires are of the Continental EcoContact Plus type which makes it very difficult to get a flat tire, all for additional safety.

Furthermore, this ebike is equipped with LED lights that adjust during the day time to save energy. Finally, it does not have a conventional oil chain, instead it is operated by a carbon toothed chain that is almost maintenance free. All of these features make this bike very desirable and it is considered an improvement from previously produced ebikes that were not deemed as very successful.

Despite all of these benefits that make this ebike rather desirable, it still has its critiques. The hybrid design makes it operate with as little or as much power as the user wants to give it, however, that means that the bike could be very slow and those safety features prevents it from going at a fast rate.

Euro Want One ...

When it was first released in May 2012, Smart ebike was selling for almost 3000 euros in Germany and it came in two colors, smartly coordinated with the smart car, crystal white with electric green and grey matt with flame orange.

Currently, it is selling in Canada and the United States for over $3000.
